Retro Kolkata : First of all Heartiest congratulations for your selection in Retro Kolkata Magazine Green Edition. Please introduce yourself. Tell us about your background.
Zainul : This is Zainul Abedin from Aligarh, I have completed my graduation in fine art from Aligarh Muslim University. Always tried to expose his ideas via variety of media including painting, mix media, photography, performance, as well as other activities.
Retro Kolkata : How important is photography to you? How did you start photography?
Zainul :Photography allows us to express ourselves through an art form. We notice a beautiful street child or an old man's lined face and we want to capture it. Start photography when I was in intermediate school, I want to become a photographer . I took it way more seriously then I should have. I went Delhi and bought a second hand camera. And then starting shooting videos and photos everywhere.
Retro Kolkata : What motivates and inspires you as a photographer?
Zainul :Mostly motivated me child memories child labour street child, I'm to make sure that each photograph that I take is some way better then the one I took before . I try to use photography to show people the way in which I see the world, not just a visuals of scene before me.
Retro Kolkata : Which genre of photography do you like and What inspires you? Which masters of photography have inspired you in your photographic work?
Zainul :I like fine art photography but I inspired by Lee Jeffries is a British street photographer, who resides near Manchester, England . He focus on homeless people in England and all around the world.
Retro Kolkata : What type of camera, lenses and lighting equipment do you use?
Zainul :I used to much Nikon D90 it is not currently in market, and I did Canon mark 3, Sony mirrorless , Nikon D3200, lens 50mm, 70-200mm ,Canon lens 50mm, Nikon 70-105mm.
Retro Kolkata : What subjects inspire you and prompt you to look for the shot?
Zainul :When you spend hundreds of hours to build your own business or become an expert in your field, you are trying to gain control over your livelihood. If you strive to control your life and that of others, your motivation is likely power. You enjoy actions that will make you the sole determinant of what happens to your money, food, health, relationships and more.
Retro Kolkata : Do you prefer black and white shots or colour?
Zainul :It depends totally on the subject although most nature photograph are better in colour , there are some where black and white is better.
Retro Kolkata : Where would you like to be in 10 years time and what are you going to do in the next 6 months to get closer to that goal?
Zainul :I would like to be an international multi-talented Artist
