GMB Akash, a distinguished photographer from Bangladesh, has achieved global recognition with over 100 international awards to his name. His extraordinary work has graced the pages of more than 100 major international publications, including National Geographic, Vogue, and Time. His journey in the world of photography has been marked by several firsts, including being the first Bangladeshi selected for the World Press Photo Joop Swart Masterclass in the Netherlands in 2002 and winning the World Press Photo award in 2006.
GMB Akash's illustrious career is further highlighted by his numerous awards and accolades. In 2004, he received the Young Reporters Award at the Scope Photo Festival in Paris, followed by the "Best of Show" at the Center for Fine Art Photography's international competition in Colorado, USA, in 2005. His contributions to travel photography were recognized in 2009 when he was titled the 'Travel Photographer of the Year' at the International Travel Photographer of the Year Competition (TPOY 2009) in the UK.
Apart from his achievements in photography, GMB Akash is also known for his humanitarian efforts. His book 'SURVIVORS', published in 2012, is a testament to his decade-long project, the proceeds of which aid in setting up small businesses for the subjects of his book. In 2013, he founded the FIRST LIGHT INSTITUTE OF PHOTOGRAPHY in Bangladesh, focusing on providing basic education for street children and underprivileged talented students.
As a jury member in several international photo contests and a speaker at significant conferences, including the Global Investigative Journalism Conference and TEDxOporto, Akash's influence extends beyond photography.
