From the stage of the glamour world to the debut in the Madhur Bhandarkar’s film, Satarupa Pyne has inspired us –Hard work is the key. The ‘Calendar Girls’ actress shared her wondering journey with Retro Kolkata.
RK :First of all thanks a lot for accepting our invitation for an interview. it’s a great pleasure to have you as our Guest. Let’s start from the first question… Let’s have a jump into the past. What was your dream since you were a kid? …what would you like to do?
Satarupa: Well , I was a naughty kid . I used to turn and mess up every single piece of the showcase.My mom had her days spatting me up for everything . I told her I would take revenge this up when she would be old (Laughing) .Post school, I started understanding things better and I matured up for real.
I was too much into sports , so much that I have represented my state for Women’s volleyball team and won 18 medals , which includes two gold.
Rk : Please say something about your career as a fashion model. How did you get started?
Satarupa: So , it all started abruptly, it was so unplanned and that's why, it’s this rewarding today . I have just jokingly sent my pictures for a beauty pageant . They’ve selected me . And everything changed post that .
RK : What is that specific moment in your life which lit the spark in you to become a model?
Satarupa : I mean , you can imagine a tomboy right from the fields of volleyball grounds , straight into the runway . So you got to change it all and I changed it . For once and forever and that’s been the spark . I fell in love with the cameras, with the paparazzis , with the glamour , with the stilettos , with the runways and with myself .
RK : What was your first big break in the industry ?
Satarupa : I guess , to get into the film industry withMadhurBhandarkar for ‘Calendar Girls’ .
RK :What has been your favorite shoot / campaign / work to date?
Satarupa :I don’t choose a campaign if I don’t like to shoot for it . So all that youcan see on the hoardings and on the tv– all are my favorites .
RK : What do you enjoy the most in modeling?
Satarupa : Everything . The attitude which sets you apart . You can’t fake it , you gotta have it .
RK : Sometimes the modeling industry gets a bad rap with the jealousy and egos encountered between other models and agencies. Was this true for you? Have you managed to tough it out and make good friends?
Satarupa :Well, it’s a part of every industry . I have made some real good friends in here and I am happy to have them . I have a very diverting side of me which can well ignore the jealousy and ego around , and that’s my WIT . I can crack you up with the silliest one liners , when you are on a serious topic . And Overall people never messed with me much .
RK : What’s your beauty regime? Would you like to share some of your best beauty secrets?
Satarupa : A bit of discipline is needed , specially when you are in front of the camera . So you got to eat clean , keep yourself hydrated mostly . Sweat out the junk ,work-outs are must . There’s no short cut to it .
RK : How do you stay in Shape?
Satarupa : I pray to God and it happens . Jokes apart , I work hard for it .
RK :You have made your Bollywood debut with MadhurBhandarkar’s film ‘Calendar Girls’. How was it working with such a great personality like MadhurBhandarkar ? Would you like to share with us some unforgettable moments ?
Satarupa : Well it’s been a gift from God . I have countless memories and that’s what it is to live your dream . It paved a different path for me . I realized I can emote . I could reach my inner self through acting . I could touch my center . I got aware of lot of small things around me which I never noticed . I humbled up . The catwalks took a break . The cameras started rolling and I couldn’t have asked for more and then slowly u get to know it’s how real you are to act well .
RK : What have been the greatest challenges you’ve faced in your career so far and as per your opinion, what are the main challenges in fashion industry today?
Satarupa : Nothing is challenging , if you are good at your job . They will all need you if you can deliver . Trust me !
RK : Give us 5 fun facts people might not know about you yet.
Satarupa : Umm ..
· I can play volleyball with you if you want to . ( Laughing)
· I behave outrageous but I am homely.
· Am I saying it all? Wait ..okay so . I would like to dominate you if you would allow me to! Lol
· Ambitious and well rooted .
· I think, I am a kickass of a woman -so the man in my life would be lucky . Rofl.
RK : What are the 5 Things you want to tell newbies before he/she become a model.
Satarupa : Be real. Rest all will fall in place if you have the right drive.
RK : We (Retro Kolkata) are trying to build one single stage for all the artists, because we believe that artists are the most beautiful creation of God and geographical boundary can never break their unity and harmony.
